The Power of Place

How does the power of place influence our sustainability practice, weaving itself into our behaviour, attitudes, motivations, knowledge, connections, community, creativity?

To celebrate the #SustFashScotland community’s inspiring sustainability practice, progress, people, and places in 2022, we are inviting YOU to submit visual and/or written content about your changemaking work, and your perspective on the power of place in sustainable fashion and textiles in Scotland.

When we think of ‘place’, we think of the uniqueness of geographic locations, online spaces, specific venues or points in time, nature, heritage and history, culture, wellbeing, communities, people, and the relationship between these and our sustainability practice. We look forward to understanding what emerges within you when thinking about ‘place’.

Submissions are welcomed from fashion activists, designers, business owners, academics, students, home sewers, crafters and more. If you are based in Scotland and work in or are interested in sustainable fashion and textiles - we want to hear from you.

Prompt: The Power of Place

Alongside your magazine submission, we would like you to respond to this prompt with a visual and/or 3-5 words on how place influences your sustainability practice. These will come together in the magazine in a collage …

Here are some ideas on what the visual could be:

  • A photograph of a place that is important to your sustainability practice, or something from that place

  • Textile piece

  • A (small) drawing/sketch

  • How a certain place makes you feel

This is included in the submission form.
